Local Information
Here is a map showing the conference venues and lodging options:
The Venue
FoCM 2020 will be held at SFU’s Vancouver campus. The conference will be held in a combination across three buildings: the SFU Harbour Centre, the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, and the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue.
All buildings are within easy walking distance of each other. Signs and maps will be posted at the conference.
Getting Around
Downtown Vancouver is fairly small, and readily accessible on foot. Vancouver has an extensive public transit system. The SFU Vancouver campus can be accessed by taking either the Canada Line or Expo Line on the Skytrain (metro). The Canada Line also runs directly to Vancouver Airport. The nearest Skytrain station is Waterfront Station.
There are several bus lines that run to SFU Harbour Centre and to Waterfront Station. In particular, the 95-B Line runs directly from the SFU Burnaby campus (where the SFU residences are located) to SFU Harbour Centre; the closest stop is Abbott St.
Waterfront Station can also be accessed from North Vancouver (immediately across the harbour) via the SeaBus. It is a 13 minute journey from Lonsdale Quay Station to Waterfront Station.
Vancouver public transit uses a contactless “Compass Card” payment system. Compass cards can be purchased at Skytrain stations and selected convenience stores. You may also use touchless credit cards in lieu of a Compass card. More information about transit can be found on the TransLink website.
Ride-hailing services (Uber, Lyft, etc) are expected to be available in Vancouver before June 2020. There are also taxis. Taxis are required by law to accept payment in either cash or credit card.
